It was a typical busy day at the hospital where I worked as a nurse. I was rushing through the crowded hallways, trying to get to my next patient, when I accidentally bumped into a man. Without even looking at him, I snapped, "Watch where you're going, buddy!"
A few weeks later, I found myself on the other side of the hospital bed. I had been admitted as a patient after a serious car accident, and I was in a lot of pain. As I lay there, trying to stay calm, a doctor walked in. It was the same man I had treated so badly just a few weeks earlier.
He didn't say anything about our previous encounter, but I couldn't help feeling embarrassed about how I had treated him. He was incredibly kind and patient with me, and he spent a lot of time making sure I was comfortable and that I understood what was happening.
As it turned out, I had some serious injuries that required surgery. The man who had once been a stranger to me was now the doctor who saved my life. He stayed by my side throughout my recovery, and I couldn't help feeling grateful to him for all he had done.
After I was discharged from the hospital, I made a point to seek him out and apologize for the way I had treated him. He just smiled and told me not to worry about it, but I knew that my words meant a lot to him.
From that day on, I made an effort to treat everyone with kindness and respect, no matter who they were or what their job was. I learned that you never know who might end up being the person who saves your life.
