Lome Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys, and Inside Tips

Lome Shopping
Lome has some wonderful street vendors and shopping. If you’re traveling in Lome, and are looking for shopping, check out these areas:
Grand Marché

The Grand Market is next to the Catholic Cathedral, and it is a busy market, where you can probably buy anything.
There is a section selling tourist souvenirs, where the sellers are quite pushy about asking you to look at their shops.
The fabrics section is beautiful. The fabric stalls are run by women and are arranged floor to ceiling with the most wonderful brightly colored fabrics in hundreds of patterns. You can buy Kente cloth here that is woven in neighboring Ghana and is unique to the Ashanti people. The market is organized by product, so if you are looking for men’s clothes, you will find them all in the same area.
Marox Supermarket
The Marox supermarket is stocked with canned goods, cold soft drinks, cold beers and larger items like oil and rice. They have a reasonable butcher counter with good sausages. You will also find very good local nuts (like cashews) sold inside recycled water bottles. Outside the store are incredible fruit stands.
Villiage Artisanal
Villiage Artisanal has stalls selling art by local artists. You can observe the artists at work here, and buy their finished products. This market is the perfect place for nice souvenirs for the folks back home. There’s a great selection including paintings, sculptures, textiles, pottery, jewelry and more. Prices are reasonable, and vendors may come down on the price if you buy in quantity.
