For 5 years, Kelsey Poshusta tried to catch a muskie while on fishing trips with her family. It became the family’s running joke that she was the only one who hadn’t caught one yet.
But recently, her patience paid off when she caught a monster of a fish: a record-breaking 57-inch muskie.
The 23-year-old accountant says that she was on her family’s boat when she suddenly heard the line. She spent a total of 20 minutes trying to reel in the catch, and even asked her father to help her — but he said that this one was all hers!
When she finally got her hands on the muskie, she posed for some photos with it. It was a sweet, triumphant moment for the young woman! Her dad even took a few measurements.
Then, she released the animal back into the wild.
Unfortunately, her specimen cannot be considered for the record books as there was no scale with which to weigh the muskie. But Kelsey is just glad that she was able to catch one after so long. It’s even motivated her to go back out there and see what other large specimens she can reel in next time!
